We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Conor Gearty KC (Hon), a towering figure in the field of human rights and a long-standing member of JUSTICE. Conor served on the JUSTICE Council from 2000 to 2013 and was instrumental in delivering training with JUSTICE around the introduction of the Human Rights Act. He contributed to numerous JUSTICE events, lectures, and conferences, including the 2007 Tom Sargant Memorial Lecture, which can be read here. More recently, we had been collaborating on work to ensure outsourced care providers were subject to full accountability under the Human Rights Act.

Conor’s passion, intellect and wit left a lasting impression on all who worked with him. Many of our staff had the privilege of being taught by him at LSE, where he inspired generations of lawyers and human rights advocates.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy will continue to shape the pursuit of justice for years to come.

Together, we can transform the justice system

Stand with us to strengthen the rule of law and ensure everyone can rely on our legal system.
