Asylum and immigration

Human rights are rights that all persons are meant to enjoy equally, yet people who are subject to immigration control face many more restrictions on their basic rights than ordinary people.

JUSTICE works to promote fairer and more effective asylum law and practice in the UK and the EU, particularly in view of the development of a Common European Asylum System.

UK asylum law and practice

We provide briefings and produce submissions in relation to asylum legislation and relevant inquiries by Committees in the Houses of Parliament.

Asylum determination systems

We conduct and publish comparative research on asylum determination systems and on developments in asylum laws and practice in the UK, EU and other selected countries.

Asylum and the Human Rights Act 1998

We audit asylum law and practice for compliance with the Human Rights Act and prepare briefings on the implications the Human Rights Act may have on asylum law and practice.

EU asylum law and practice

We produce commentaries for Parliament and others on proposals for EU harmonisation of asylum law and practice.
